'Tis the Season
‘Tis the season to have your throat slashed.
‘Tis the season to have your skin ripped off your body and to be chopped into pieces, because people enjoy the taste of your flesh.
‘Tis the season to be imprisoned in brutally squalid conditions, without even enough room to turn around.
‘Tis the season to be condemned to spend what’s left of your life inside an enormous warehouse for you and others to be stockpiled.
‘Tis the season to scream in agony and to be shown no mercy whatsoever no matter how much you suffer and how much pain and torture you are made to endure.
‘Tis the season to be brutally kicked by a large cowardly creature much bigger than you.
‘Tis the season to be murdered.
‘Tis the season for festering open wounds.
If the true meaning of Christmas is cruelty to animals, then we need to ban Christmas urgently. If it’s not, then we need to stop supporting the industries that brutalize animals to produce Christmas products. Furthermore, we need to recognize that factory farming is a terribly brutal and disgusting practice that should have been left behind long ago.
Many continue to make use of products derived from factory farming and continue to buy products from producers such as Gravel Farm, Clearwell, and Strawberry Hill, and other Red Tractor certified farms, which, as Viva’s investigation shows are businesses that have absolutely nothing but contempt for animal welfare.
If you really believe that you are decent person and that cruelty to animals might not be such a good thing then you have no need to buy products form these organisations. The right thing to do is boycott all products of factory farming. And there are not many times of year that bring this home more than the festive period when the mortuary aisle of the local supermarket suddenly swells to the brim with fresh corpses.
This is not an effort to guilt or shame. We all have to realise the truth eventually. Do the right thing for non-human animals, for humans, and for the planet. And if you really can’t bring yourself to do the right thing this festive period, then at least make it a New Year’s resolution to stop supporting cruelty.
Christmas wishes from non-human animals.
